Strategic Pillars

Organization Strategy

The Development Organization of the Region of Thessaly provides scientific, advisory, and technical support services to first- and second-level local authorities, their entities and associations, and legal entities of the wider public sector.

The Organization supports the implementation of local government responsibilities through technical assistance, infrastructure project preparation, regional development policy implementation, social cohesion initiatives, digital transformation, and sustainable development.

Organization Activities

The Organization’s activities will span multiple areas, utilizing all available funding sources and instruments. The ultimate goal is to accelerate development and investment processes and identify opportunities to attract new investment.

Based on the Region of Thessaly’s strategic priorities for the new programming period, the following priority areas have been identified for the Development Organization:

PILLAR 1

Environment / Climate Change

Priority Area 1 focuses on designing and implementing actions to prevent and address climate change, protect the natural and urban environment, and manage natural resources. It is particularly important for the Region of Thessaly, as environmental protection is linked both to safeguarding the primary sector, which plays a vital role, and to promoting sustainable tourism. At the same time, mitigating the impact of extreme weather events associated with the climate crisis is also of critical importance.

PILLAR 2

Agri-food / Entrepreneurship

Priority Area 2 focuses on initiatives to strengthen and modernize the primary sector—including agriculture, fisheries, and livestock farming—as well as to connect and promote agri-food activities and support entrepreneurship more broadly. It is particularly important, as the Region of Thessaly possesses untapped competitive advantages in the agri-food sector.

PILLAR 3

Technical Support (Project Preparation & Implementation)

The “Technical Support” Priority Area will cover the preparation and/or implementation of technical projects for both the Region of Thessaly and the local authorities within its geographical jurisdiction. This priority area is particularly important, as infrastructure development at the regional level directly improves residents’ quality of life, promotes further economic growth, and protects the region against future risks, such as flooding.

PILLAR 4

Tourism / Culture / Extroversion

The fourth priority area focuses on initiatives that promote and strengthen tourism development, the Region of Thessaly’s cultural heritage, and its international outreach.

PILLAR 5

Quality of Life / Education / Health

Priority Area 5 focuses on initiatives to improve the quality of life and promote the health of residents and visitors to the Region of Thessaly, showcase the region’s sporting potential, and provide education, training, and certification through digital seminars for employees of the Organization’s shareholders and other citizens.

PILLAR 6

Technological Transformation / Connectivity

Priority Area 6 focuses on technological and digital transformation initiatives, as well as transport connectivity projects, such as the operation of seaplane bases.
